YUMA'S BEST FREE EVENT BY NANCY GILKEY, SUN STAFF WRITER February 8, 2009 - 3:22PM If the

Yuma's Best vote is any indication, people have thoroughly enjoyed the Yuma Air Show. It's been voted Yuma's Best Free Event for 2008 by The Sun's readers. "This is a great honor for the air station and our Marines, sailors and civilian employees," said Col. Ben Hancock, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma commanding officer, in a written statement. "It is another confirmation of the great relationship that the Marines have with the local community." "The air show is a way to show the public the joint power of military aviation and enjoy stunning acrobatic aerial performances from both civilian and military aviators," wrote Capt. Rob Dolan, MCAS spokesperson. "It offers something of interest and enjoyment for almost everybody ... It showcases our military equipment and personnel and the professionalism of our military. It is a lot of fun for all ages." "We are happy that they both enjoyed the air show and that they thought enough about it to vote it number one," said Hancock. "We work to improve it every year based on feedback from various sources to include the community, so come on out again this year!" The air show, held in February at the MCAS Yuma airfield, is hosted by MCAS and sponsored by many Yuma businesses and organizations. For more information, visit www.yumaairshow.com.
